🔥 The Fire We Plugged In

We used to fear fire.
Now we live inside it.

Once, fire was the untamed god — uncontrollable, radiant, and fatal. It devoured what it touched. Then we taught it to whisper.

Electricity is fire, tamed.
But more than that — it’s fire made obedient, made silent, made useful.

And somewhere along the line, we did the unthinkable:
We told it to sit in the walls and wait for us.

There was a time when two kinds of fire fought for control:
Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC).
DC couldn’t travel far. AC could — sometimes too well.
It brought power to cities, but it also set houses ablaze.

Edison electrocuted an elephant trying to scare people off.
Tesla dreamed of sending fire through the air.
(Spoiler: he might still win.)

Eventually, AC became the global standard — not because it was safest, but because it could scale. And from there, we built the world.

Look around your home.

Every socket is a dragon’s mouth politely closed.
Every wire in your wall is a leash.

We electrified everything:

  • Can openers
  • Cars
  • LED clocks
  • Construction cranes
  • Lawnmowers
  • Skateboards
  • Hair dryers
  • Electric blankets
  • Bug zappers
  • Electric fireplaces
  • Bitcoin rigs
  • Breast pumps
  • Vibrating chairs
  • Chainsaws
  • Neon signs
  • AI servers

Fire, in every form. All contained. All disguised.

The irony?

We use electricity to cool (fridges), heat (microwaves), freeze (AC), and explode (toasters at war with bagels).

We taught fire not just to behave, but to change its function.

And then we stopped plugging it in.

Now? Fire flies.

Cable TV, landlines, radio towers, even internet signals — all end in Wi-Fi, a kind of ghost current. We’re approaching Tesla’s dream:
Electricity through the air. Power without the plug.

And yet, one thing remains untamed.

âš¡ The Battery Problem

We can direct electricity. We can shape it.
But we still can’t keep it.

A Tesla battery makes up half the weight of the car.
A backup generator needs diesel.
A phone drops to 22% and you panic.
Every device is brilliant — until it’s dead.

We’re geniuses at using power.
We still suck at storing it.

The wall socket gives you endless fire.
The battery gives you a timer.

And so the final frontier isn’t electric. It’s containment.

We live in a world where:

  • A fridge is a box of cold powered by flame
  • A hair straightener is an iron sword plugged into the void
  • A microwave is fire with a timer
  • A data center is a thunderstorm wearing a suit

And through it all, electricity waits. Behind the plaster.
Coiled in copper. Silent until summoned.

We didn’t just tame fire.
We taught it to multitask.

We made it laugh (TV), cry (YouTube), seduce (lamps), and calculate (GPT).

And the only thing left —
is to give it memory.

So until then, plug in. Charge up.
And remember:
Your wall outlet is a dragon in disguise.
And we — somehow — live with fire in our pockets.
